Residents will have noticed that the unsightly advertising hoardings at the Nicky Line bridge over the A 1081 have been demolished and the concrete platforms removed. You may fear that they are in the process of refurbishment but there is good news-they are gone for good.
Harpenden North Councillors Geoffrey Turner and John Chambers, pictured with other members of the Conservative Team, have long been working to get rid of them but St Albans District Council has, until recently, been reluctant to accept their arguments.
Geoffrey Turner says “These ugly hoardings stood at the entrance to the centre of our town, in a Conservation Area, which was completely inappropriate. Often vandalised, they looked a mess and spoiled what is recognised as an area meriting special protection.”
John Chambers commented: “Now we need to create an amenity worthy of our town.I will do all I can to have a flowerbed or soft landscaping created like the much appreciated beds at Kinsbourne Green and in the town centre. We have the opportunity to do something good here”.
