 | Heartwood Forest Update |
 |
Plans are well advanced for the new forest between Sandridge and Wheathampstead and details on the 850 acre site can be found online at www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/heartwood Archaeologists have unearthed remains of a Roman settlement, interesting Bronze Age finds together with information on the 36 birds, 20 butterfly and over 90 different moth species being identified and the protected English bluebell. By planting an additional 600,000 trees, creating wildflower meadows and laying miles of footpaths – the Woodland Trust will create the largest new native forest in England that is within easy reach of millions of people.
Please contact them if you would like to sponsor a tree or lend a hand with the planting.
A large number of visitors were able to try their hands at willow weaving, summer sketching, and woodland sculpting as well as enjoy a teddy bears’ picnic at the HeARTwood Festival held at the end of August.
