Plans for Westfield

Friday, 4 November, 2011

Decisions by the Conservative led District Council have brought closer Harpenden Town Council's plans to put redundant land adjacent to Westfield Recreation Group to good social use by providing new affordable and social housing and potentially a new base for Harpenden Mencap.

Contrary to claims made in letters to the local press, it has been confirmed that the Town Council has no intention to build homes on the Westfield Recreation Ground itself, pursue private development rather than  affordable and social housing and neither will the residents of Beeching Close face vehicular access across their amenity land.

Once a scheme has been developed, plans and drawings will be shared with residents and then progress to a planning application.   With a scheme identified, Harpenden Town Council will also be able to consult with residents on ways in which the Westfield Recreation Ground can be improved including for instance amenities such as a community garden and it will be looking at how existing anti-social issues in the park can be addressed.
