District Councillor for Chesfield Ward
About George
I was born and raised in Stevenage, and lived in various local towns before my wife and I bought our first home in North Herts some years ago. I have found this area of North Hertfordshire has so much to offer, with our beautiful countryside and woodlands, and the inviting communities that have been built here.
Soon after moving to Great Ashby I realised that I wanted to do my part to give back to the local area, and joined my local Community Council, which I now chair. During my time on the council, I have been involved in a number of projects large and small that I feel have made a real difference. These range from our road salt distributions, much needed this winter, to helping out at the Christmas Fayre, and taking ownership of Local play areas to secure their future for our area.
My experience on the Community Council drove me to do more, resulting in me now representing my home area on North Herts District Council. Despite the council being run by a LibDem/Labour coalition, I am finding great reward in my work, fighting the corner for the people I represent. I particularly find satisfaction in taking up and resolving individual cases for people who need help, where I feel I can make a real difference.
In my professional career I am an engineer. In this line I have additionally developed skills in brokering compromises, and providing solutions in unanticipated situations. As a keen gardener and allotment owner, I also volunteer on green space maintenance, from tree planting action days to helping develop and publicise green space action plans.
