Roger Butterworth

District & Town Councillor for Harpenden West

About Roger

Thank you to the voters of Harpenden West Ward for electing me on 2 May 2019 as your new councillor on the District and Town Council.

My wife and I have lived in Harpenden for over 30 years, my having commuted daily by Thameslink, and have raised our two sons here.  I have been a solicitor in commercial private practice in the City of London for 40 years.

I am new to politics and the council, and aim to bring my enthusiasm and experience to the role, giving something back to the community.

I experience for myself the struggles to balance both the convenience of transport by car and neighbourliness of living and/or working in the town, with the challenges of air quality, congestion and parking difficulties.  We need to preserve the quality of life, which makes Harpenden so popular.   Threats include the proposed incinerator at East Hyde, the ever-worsening noise from Luton Airport flights and deteriorating air quality.

I pride myself as being independently minded, and will approach my new role in that vein, whilst combining with fellow Conservative councillors, who have done so much for the town over recent years for the benefit of residents.  I am looking forward to being more involved in local issues and local solutions.
