1. Stop the Liberal Democrats' unfair green bin charge
Conservatives will not charge for green waste. Everyone will benefit financially, particularly smaller homes (who faced a 37% increase). It will reduce fly tipping, help keep the District’s excellent recycling record and stop garden bonfires.
2. Make the District greener and more sustainable
We are committed to preventing climate change and will make our local area greener and more sustainable. We support a plastic-free Harpenden, Redbourn and Wheathampstead; more trees and green spaces; and more sustainable transport.
3. Stop risky Liberal Democrat property speculation
Hundreds of thousands of pounds of your money has been thrown away on unsuccessful property deals and given to property developers. Millions have been thrown at speculative property acquisitions. We will focus on services for residents.
4. Help our High Streets to thrive
Post Covid, our High Streets will be the centre of our business and social life. We will invest in bringing our High Streets roaring back to life with pavement licences, easier parking, and markets and events for residents to enjoy.
5. Get the Council working properly
All commercial projects are now late and over budget. We will manage them properly. Backlogs in planning applications and parking schemes will be cleared. We will crackdown on fly tipping, littering, overflowing bins and weed filled streets.
6. Support a speedy vaccine roll-out
Conservative Councillors have been working closely with the NHS and volunteers to making sure vaccines are rolled out speedily and will prioritise Council resources to make sure the programme continues successfully.
